Brandon Holveck,

A 19-year-old man, rescued from a burning house in Delaware City early Wednesday morning, died later that day from his injuries, according to a press release from the state fire marshal's office.

The man and a 69-year-old woman were trapped inside a home in the 100 block of Clinton St. when firefighters from multiple companies responded to a reported fire shortly after 2 a.m., according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.

Chionchio said Wednesday emergency personnel took both to the Christiana Hospital, and the 19-year-old was due to be transferred to Crozer Medical Center to treat his severe burns.

The man died at the Christiana Hospital Wednesday afternoon, according to the press release issued Thursday morning. The 69-year-old woman is still hospitalized and is "stable."

State fire investigators are still searching for the cause and origin of the fire. Chionchio said it caused about $200,000 in damage.
