A 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old man were hospitalized after a shooting Wednesday night near the welcome center along I-95, police said.
State troopers were dispatched to the welcome center about 9:40 p.m. for a report of two people being shot. Troopers found the victims, who were then taken to an area hospital, police said.
Few details about the shooting were provided late Wednesday.
State police said Thursday afternoon that five people were on I-95 north in the same vehicle in the area of the service plaza when an unknown person drove past their car and shot into it.
The girl suffered a gunshot to the abdomen. The man got minor injuries from broken glass. Both were taken to a local hospital by ambulance. The other occupants of the vehicle were not injured, police said.
After the shooting, everyone in the vehicle that came under fire fled and ran to the nearby Sunoco gas station, police said. The victims' vehicle came to a rolling stop off the road just north of the exit to the service area, on the north side. The shooter continued north on I-95.
Police said Thursday they did not have surveillance video or a suspect. They asked anyone with information on the shooting to call (302) 365-8413.
