A portion of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Wilmington set to close for road work

Ira Porter,

Motorists passing through Wilmington this weekend will have to find a detour around Martin Luther King Boulevard to get from one side of I-95 to the other.

The road closure along a portion of MLK Boulevard between North Jackson Street and North Adams Street starts at 10 p.m. on Friday and is scheduled to end at 5 a.m. on Monday.

The Delaware Department of Transportation project will demolish an on-ramp to I-95 south. The on-ramp is at the end of Lancaster Avenue before crossing over to MLK,  near the city's Hedgeville section.

Motorists should follow detour signs around the project.

The project is part of the first phase of the reconstruction of I-95, which will start in March.
