Claymont man arrested for shooting his mother and her boyfriend, police say

A 24-year-old Claymont man was arrested for allegedly shooting his mother and her boyfriend in their home, New Castle County police said.

Marqus Grooms was taken into custody at the scene after the double shooting in the 3000 block of Green St. on Friday morning, police said.

Grooms was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated menacing. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $26,000 secured bail.

Police said Grooms and his 46-year-old mother got into an argument when her 49-year-old boyfriend intervened.

Grooms then retrieved a handgun and fired a single shot, police said, striking his mother in her arm. The bullet passed through her arm and then struck her boyfriend's hip.

Both victims were initially in stable condition and have since been treated and released from the hospital
