A 29-year-old Elkton, Maryland man dies after Wednesday's crash on Pulaski Highway (Route 40) in Glasglow.
Around 4 p.m., a gray 2009 Ford Escape, driven by an 18-year-old woman, was turning left onto Pleasant Valley Road from Pulaski Highway east. A silver Mazda 3, driven by the Elkton man, was going west on Pulaski Highway, Delaware State Police said.
Police say the Ford Escape had a green arrow and entered the intersection. The Mazda 3 passed stopped cars on west Pulaski Highway, disregarding the red light, and entered the intersection before striking the Escape. The vehicles then came to rest in the intersection with the Escape rolling onto its driver’s side.
The Elkton man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He did not die as a result of the accident, police said.
Delaware State Police told the News Journal/Delaware Online in an email they will not release any more information about his cause of death due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
Police say the driver of the Escape and her two additional occupants, an 18-year-old Camden-Wyoming woman and a Middletown 16-year-old girl, were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.
