A 63-year-old man died Monday night after losing control of his tractor-trailer while trying to exit Route 1, Delaware State Police said.

Troopers were called to the Route 1 exit ramp to Lorewood Grove Road just before 10 p.m. after receiving a call about the crash. They found the tractor-trailer upside-down.

Police said the driver, who was from Coral Springs, Florida, was trying to exit Route 1 when, "for reasons unknown," he lost control of his 2012 Freightliner Cascadia and it overturned.

The Freightliner then hit a guardrail, which caused the vehicle to roll onto its roof. The driver, whom police have not yet identified, was wearing a seat belt but died on scene.

More than 12 hours after the wreck, the exit for Lorewood Grove Road remained closed, police said. The Freightliner had been pulling a trailer loaded with cargo.
