I-95 has reopened after being closed for nearly five hours following a car chase that started in Pennsylvania and ended in Delaware near Harvey Road.

The road was closed while a "criminal investigation" was underway Saturday morning, Delaware State Police said.

The police chase started after 4 a.m. Saturday in Pennsylvania involving a suspect and Pennsylvania State Police. Once it entered Delaware, it "ended very shortly thereafter," a spokesperson for Delaware State Police said.

WPVI-TV said the chase ended when the suspect, who apparently was involved in a carjacking, "left his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the troopers."

Neither Delaware or Pennsylvania state police have confirmed that gunfire took place.

I-95 was closed in both directions between Marsh and Harvey roads throughout the early morning Saturday.

Motorists traveling south on I-95 Saturday morning were directed onto I-495 south. Motorist traveling north on I-95 were diverted onto Marsh Road.
