Matthew Bazemore was getting ready for an afternoon Christmas Eve shift when he heard six or seven gunshots from outside his townhome in Wilmington's Eastlawn neighborhood.
He immediately peered outside and saw a man lying on the ground across the street, hit multiple times by gunfire. As he turned his head, Bazemore said he saw two cars speed away.
One may have been the white Cadillac SUV that carried 27-year-old Daquell Walker and an unknown gunman who helped Walker in an act of revenge, according to court documents obtained by Delaware Online/The News Journal.
Walker told police he was robbed at gunpoint by the 28-year-old gunshot victim earlier in the day and decided to drive around the area with an unidentified subject to find him, court documents show.
Once they found the victim in the 200 block of Cityview Ave. around 11:15 a.m., the unknown man fired 14 times from the passenger seat of Walker's 2014 Cadillac SRX, according to court documents. Walker told police he aided by giving his passenger his .40 caliber gun.
The 28-year-old victim, who had gunshot wounds on his torso, was taken to the hospital and underwent emergency trauma surgery, court documents show. Police have not identified the victim.
Police found the white Cadillac unoccupied about 50 minutes after the shooting, according to court documents. A man, later identified as Walker, was standing near the car, court documents say. At about this time, Walker called Wilmington Police to report his .40 caliber gun was stolen at around 9:30 a.m., court documents said.

According to court documents, an officer in a marked patrol car then talked to Walker for several minutes before leaving the area. At the same time, Wilmington Police detectives established covert surveillance of Walker, court documents show.
After the officer left, Walker entered a gray Jeep Cherokee as a passenger, court documents said. The Jeep was soon pulled over and Walker was arrested. Upon being detained, police found Walker had keys belonging to a Cadillac, according to court documents.
Walker was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangering, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and first-degree conspiracy.
Walker was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on more than $1 million cash-only bail.
The incident was the first of two reported shootings in Wilmington on Christmas Eve.
A 20-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot in the 500 block of New Castle Ave. in Southbridge at about 7:45 p.m., according to Wilmington Police. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition, police said.
There have been 85 shooting incidents in Wilmington in 2019, according to Delaware Online/The News Journal's database. There were 14 fewer incidents last year and 31 fewer victims.
Witnesses at the scene of the Eastlawn shooting said multiple houses were hit by gunfire. According to court documents, a gunshot put a 41-year-old woman in danger in a nearby house and damaged her rear sliding glass door.
Bazemore's patio window and AC unit took damage, he said. Other bullets went into his basement and past his home to his neighbor's house.
"I'm tired of the gun violence," Bazemore said. "It's lucky there were no kids. Usually we have kids out playing basketball. God forbid they got killed (after) being struck by gunfire."
