A 43-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot on Northeast Boulevard in Wilmington's Riverside section Saturday night.

Police said the shooting happened around 7:29 p.m. in the 2900 block of Northeast Blvd. Multiple evidence markers and shattered glass could be seen in the roadway.

It's unclear what exactly happened. Police did not reveal any further information other than that the man was in stable condition Saturday night.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Anthony Ford at (302) 576-3606. Information can also be provided to Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.

It was Wilmington's first reported shooting of 2021 following what was a violent 2020. The year finished with a New Year's Eve shooting that left a 19-year-old injured. He became the 169th and final shooting victim of 2020, the second-highest recorded by Delaware Online/The News Journal since the newspaper began tracking shootings in 2011.
