A 29-year-old stabbed four people, two of whom were older adults, then died during a psychotic episode in Dover Wednesday evening, police said.
Officers were called to a home on Bradley Road in Dover at about 9:45 p.m.
after receiving a 911 call from a 66-year-old woman who said she'd been stabbed, Dover police said.
While officers were tending to the woman's injuries, the 29-year-old called police and said there were three other people injured at home on Kennedy Road.
Those victims were a 73-year-old woman, an 11-year-old boy and a 37-year-old woman. By the time officers got to that home, the man had died.
Through talking to victims and the man's family, police learned that the man had been suffering from "increasingly severe symptoms of mental illness," including auditory delusions. He'd been inside his home on Bradley Road when he experienced a severe episode. The man's family tried to keep him in the house, but were unable to because he was violent and bit them, police said. He then ran to another home on Bradley Road, where he took a "large" kitchen knife and ran to a different house.
At that home, the man knocked on the door. When the 66-year-old woman answered, he cut and stabbed her before running to the Kennedy Road house.
Inside that home, the man attacked a 73-year-old woman who was sitting in a chair, stabbing her twice in the head, police said. He then attacked two other people in the house: the 11-year-old boy and the 37-year-old woman.
The man died inside that home, though police have not said how. An autopsy will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
All four victims were treated at a nearby hospital. None of their injuries was life-threatening, police said.
Because of the nature of the incident, police said they are not releasing any names.
