A 30-year-old man was badly injured Wednesday afternoon after being ejected from his motorcycle then run over by a tractor-trailer, Newark Police said.
According to police, the motorcyclist was driving west on Route 4 near Science Parkway in Newark when a tractor-trailer that was coming from the opposite direction turned left, directly into his path.
The motorcyclist tried to stop before hitting the tractor-trailer, but was unable to and was ejected from his bike, police said. The back of the tractor-trailer then ran him over.
The man was wearing a helmet and treated by paramedics before being flown to a local hospital.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a St. Louis, Missouri man, was uninjured and cited with failure to yield when making a left turn.
Police closed the road for about an hour as they investigated the wreck.
