A 29-year old man was wounded following an early morning shooting on New Year's Day, the state police said Friday.
State police said Delaware's first shooting of the year occurred around 12:16 a.m. at a Red Roof Inn located on Stanton-Christiana Road in Stanton.
Police said the New Castle man had a verbal exchange with four unknown men in the motel parking lot as he was walking to his car. When he drove away, the men began shooting at his vehicle, striking the car multiple times and hitting him in the chest.
The victim then drove to a nearby Royal Farms convenience store where he crashed into another vehicle. The store's clerk rendered first aid until troopers
arrived. He was taken to Christiana Hospital and treated for a gunshot wound.
No other information on the shooting was available. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Conway with Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigative Unit by calling 302-365-8427.
