A 23-year-old Newark man died Thursday afternoon after a crash in Bear.
The man was on a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle going east on Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40), approaching a green light at the Buckley Blvd. intersection around 2:15 p.m., Delaware State Police said.
Police said that's when a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 49-year-old Bear man, was going west on U.S. 40 when he entered the left turn lane for Buckley Blvd. on a red light. The Jeep then proceeded into the intersection, directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle collided with the right front side of the Jeep, ejecting the Newark man. The driver of the Jeep came to a stop and remained at the scene, according to police.
The motorcyclist was taken to Christiana Hospital where he died. The driver, along with a passenger of the Jeep were properly restrained and were not injured, police said.
Police said the eastbound lanes of U.S. 40 were closed for about three hours.
