Newark road rage incident ends in shooting early Sunday

Esteban Parra,

Three people have been arrested after a road rage incident in Newark early Sunday that ended with a 29-year-old man being shot.

The gunshot victim was being treated at an area hospital for serious injuries, Newark Police Lt. Andrew Rubin said.

Newark officers were dispatched just after midnight to the 500 block of Capitol Trail for a report of shots fired. The arriving officers found a man at a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

Officers took three people into custody at the scene and the firearm used in the shooting was also located by police, Rubin said. Police did not say if any charges have been filed against the three arrested.

"Preliminary investigation reveals that this incident started as a road rage incident," he said.

This is an active investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available, Rubin added.
