Wilmington Police identified the man who was killed in the city's first fatal shooting of 2020.

Police found 28-year-old William Parker Jr. of Edgemoor injured the 300 block of W. Sixth St. at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Though this is Wilmington's first fatal shooting of the year, it's the second shooting of 2020 for the city.

The first occurred on Saturday, when an 18-year-old man was injured in the 700 block of N. Spruce St. at about 8 p.m.

A day later, police arrested the accused shooters, both of whom were charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy.

Tuesday's shooting is the seventh statewide so far this year. Three of those shootings have happened in Dover.

Wilmington Police have not released additional information about Tuesday's shooting, saying only "further details will be released when possible."

They ask for anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Matthew Reiss at (302) 576-3649.
