Delaware State Police have identified the man who died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer near New Castle Monday night.

Andrew S. Hunt, a 29-year-old man from Newark, was hit by a tractor-trailer in his Nissan Altima on Rogers Road west of Oakmont Drive and Route 9, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Before the crash, Hunt was stopped on the right shoulder of Rogers Road facing east. He then backed into a private driveway to reverse directions and turn left on Rogers Road, according to police.

After doing so, Hunt turned directly into the path of the tractor-trailer, police said. The vehicles collided and eventually stopped in the right shoulder past Oakmont Drive.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 44-year-old man from Newark, and his passengers were taken to Wilmington Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
