A shooting in Elkton injured three people, including a 7-year-old boy, Monday afternoon, police said.
The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. in the 100 block of Huntsman Drive, which is in the Hollingsworth Manor area.
An hourslong standoff between police and two suspects followed. Police established two separate perimeters, blocking off Cow Lane at Landing Lane until around 10:15 p.m.
The shooting scene is a little more than 4 miles from the Maryland/Delaware border.
Elkton Police Capt. Joseph Zurolo said the Elkton Police were being assisted by Maryland State Police as they approached the barricaded suspects.
Neighbors were told to stay away during the standoff, but several surrounded the scene filming police with long guns on their cellphones. Police later said they didn't believe there was an imminent threat to the community.
Elkton Police Captain Joseph Zurolo said the 7-year-old boy was shot in the left foot and transported to Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children and listed in stable condition. The 25-year-old man, who suffered a non-life-threatening wound, was taken to Christiana Hospital and also listed in stable condition.
Zurolo said the woman suffered a graze wound to her knee and was treated at the scene, but refused to go to a local hospital.
