Police urge witnesses of Saturday morning Claymont murder to come forward

New Castle County Police on Saturday night identified the 25-year-old woman shot and killed in the early hours of Saturday morning in Claymont as Tanasia Rollins-Townsend.

Police said officers responded to Third Avenue in the community of Overlook Colony around 12:30 a.m.

They located Rollins-Townsend at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

No other information about the incident was available and police did not provide information about a potential suspect.

Col. Vaughn Bond, the county's chief of police, urged potential witnesses to come forward.

"Unfortunately, it has become commonplace in New Castle County that many are reluctant to provide investigators with information about those who are responsible for destroying families and neighborhoods one bullet at a time," he said.

"We know there are individuals out there with knowledge of this incident, and we need them to come forward. No matter how insignificant you may think that information is, we need you to share it with our investigators."

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Mancuso at (302) 395-2743 or via email at John.Mancuso@newcastlede.gov. Information can also be shared anonymously to Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or delawarecrimestoppers.org.
