A 64-year-old man died Monday afternoon after a tree fell on him while in the backyard of a home in Newark, police said.
First responders were called to the home, located in the 200 block of Walker Way, just after 12:45 p.m. after receiving a call that a tree fell on a man.
Paramedics found the man dead.
Police said the victim and a co-worker, who were employed by a tree cutting service, were cutting down a tree in the backyard of the home when the victim was hit by a branch. He was standing on the ground at the time of the accident.
The accident has been referred to the United States Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration, police said. There is no foul play suspected.
Police will identify the victim once his next of kin are notified.
