A 49-year-old man was shot late Thursday in downtown Wilmington, police said.

Wilmington Police did not provide the victim's condition, other than to say the man was stable in a hospital.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 800 block of Tatnall Street.

City officers could be seen concentrating their investigation near the intersection of Eighth and Tatnall streets. Several evidence cones could be seen in the intersection marking shell casings.

Some officers were also near the entrance to the Tatnall Deli & Market.

The city is witnessing one of its most violent years. So far this year, 113 people have been shot, 15 fatally. The number of people shot the previous two years during the same time period was far less: In that time frame, 72 people were shot last year, and 54 in 2018.

Police did not provided more details, but asked that anyone with information about the shooting contact Detective Kevin Murphy at (302) 576-3972.
