Woman flown to hospital after jumping from vehicle on Route 1, Delaware State Police say

A woman jumped out of a moving vehicle on Route 1 Monday morning and was taken to the hospital by helicopter, according to Delaware State Police.

The woman was in a dispute with her boyfriend when she decided to jump out of the vehicle, Cpl. Jason Hatchell said. The couple was traveling south near Middletown, according to Hatchell.

The woman bled from her head and sustained road rash from her fall, Hatchell said. She was taken by police helicopter to a local hospital for her injuries.

A man who asked not to be identified said he saw the woman walking in the highway's median around 5:45 a.m. He said several cars slowed down as they passed the woman but no one stopped until he did. He let her into his car and called 911, he said. Emergency personnel arrived shortly after and blocked off the south lanes of the highway.
