A Delmar woman who was standing by her front door Wednesday evening was hit by two bullets as she tried to get into her home, Delaware State Police said.

Delmar Police Department officers were called to the 11000 block of Buckingham Drive in Delmar at about 8:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a shooting, state police said.

The 56-year-old woman told responding officers she was trying to get inside when she was hit by two rounds. She was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A Year of Gun Violence

Delmar police requested help from Delaware State Police, who responded and found one projectile on the front porch of the home. Another went into the woman's home from what detectives believe was the road area.

Troopers do not currently have any information on a suspect.

This is the fifth shooting in the state so far this year. Last year, 189 people were shot, 42 fatally.
